For that matter, a wicker basket or 3 is probably enough to sort worms into. I was merely replying to the comment about cabinet decay, and to be honest, it's not safe. Cabinets can break any second while a map is loaded. Decay is processed every few minutes if it's still the same as legacy.
Worms are stockpileable as well as soil and they use the same type of stockpile - the soil one. One doesn't need containers to sort them out. After digging you just take a worm and form a stockpile with it. The stockpile will look like like it is soil stockpile but that doesn't matter because you will fill it only with worms. It is done by ALT+Left Click (Amber Client) on one of worms in your inventory with stockpile opened. All worms will move into the stockpile but soil will stay in the inventory. Then you CTRL+ALT+Left Click soil and all soil will be instantly discarded from the inventory.
P.S. Earthworms can be used anywhere where soil is required. This includes putting them into soil stockpile, into Treeplanter's pots, in landscaping and so on.
