I'd link you to a single post, but there isn't one. There are several helpful starter combat guides. Check the stickies. A couple are in the "H&H Guides" thread. There are a couple more floating around that may be more helpful.

We're a generally helpful group in this forum, but at least show you've read some of it. Ask specific questions about what you don't understand.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

i mean honestly, the fighting is pretty darned straight forward. You attack someone with specific colors, if you attack them enough, the opponent becomes weaker to the constant barrage of attacks on the same color. There are 4 colors. You have moves which allow you to recover from your weakness by lowering the value of the said weakness. I mean thats about as quick an easy a mock up as you can get.

very simple diagram;
first punch is green adds 0 damage, and 10 green opening
second punch is green adds 2 damage, and 20 green opening
third punch is green adds 6 damage, and 30 green opening

More opening, more damage.

fourth attack is left hook, which is blue adds 0 damage, and 10 blue opening

does no damage because there was no opening for blue, only green. you have 30 green and 10 blue, if you did an attack that did both those colors, you would do immensely more damage then if it was just a single color.

obviously the numbers i have here are messed up and wrong, but its about wrapping your head around it and understanding the concept, its an analogy.

Man you could learn faster reading wiki than posting here, seriously.

Games like this are teaching patience ;)

Just out of curiosity, what other games or MMOs have you played in the past?

yeah I'm pretty curious as to how you could see a bar of moves and assume all you had to do was press a move once, if you've played any other RPG that uses an action bar you know you just keep pressing the button, and furthermore how is the blue clock-like circle not an obvious cooldown?

Haven and Hearth is obtuse as all hell but there are some things that can't be made much more obvious. That being said, a very short combat tutorial that briefly explains all the systems (openings, initiative, manoeuvres etc.) would be a good addition to the spawn area if done right.

E: sorry, didn't realise I was posting in this thread after like two weeks, this forum moves a lot slower than it has in the past.
Oh boy, here I go cheesemaking again...

Yeah, to be fair most MMOs have systems where you can just spam an attack because the enemies are weak. They are designed to be killed easily and immediately, and there's no real danger.

the circle cooldown is not obvious, some people may get it, but maybe with a sandclock icon it would be easier

in my experience when I fight for the first time it was a mix of too much information and fear for my noob life
