Man can you see that the problem is when someone forget about the game, or coming back after long time, etc... I'm just saying that if the mail address is shown in the account info, the chance that someone remember which mail he used in the past would be greater ... cause you know, remember mail would be easier that remember username or passwords.

In case the hypothetical returning player would still need to login to the forum to see the mail address.

Well, if people were sensible, and learned how to use email properly, then losing addresses would never be an issue.

There are no reasonable solutions to this problem, so not sure what the discussion is. If you can't keep track of some part of information used to register an account, then system administrators cannot help you recover the account. Either they cannot access the information because it is encrypted internally by the account creation software or there is little way to verify a person is the same person that created the account to prevent theft of resources (payment histories are one of the few ways this is possible, but still not completely secure).

There is a couple potential solutions to this. One is to create a public email through free services such as Google, Yahoo, or (Granger will lambast me for this) Hotmail. I think Facebook even has an email account holders can use (don't know, don't use Facebook--fuck Facebook). There are others, but I'd recommend the big 3 because they've all been around 20+ years (well, not quite that in the case of Google, but I don't see them going anywhere in 20).

The second is to use a password manager. Most will track the emails and passwords used to create site accounts. The upside is that it greatly increases your account security by generating long length random passwords that can be copy-pasted from the manager into other programs. They also integrate into the web browser to auto-fill login information on websites the way modern browsers already can do (assuming you trust the browser to store your credentials safely). There are also email managers that will generate one-time use email addresses if you don't trust the site you're registering on to not send you spam (some ISPs may provide this service for no extra cost). These automatically forward to a personal, common email address with spam from 3rd party sites getting auto-blocked.

Right, you could have a record, either from Xsolla, Paypal, or your bank information that could be compared to what was on hand. The issue is that email and banking information can be hacked and stolen, so it's still no guarantee that the person with the information is the right person. Add to that older information can get archived or outright deleted (length of time a company may be required to keep it can vary from country to country) making it time consuming to impossible.

Honestly I'm not sure. It's not like I couldn't restore the account; it seems fairly safe. I'm generally just extremely wary of setting a precedent of "giving away" accounts that have no proof of ownership whatsoever.

sMartins wrote:On this topic, I think I already suggested this in the past, can we have the e-mail specified in the account info? Tbh I also don't know which mail is bonded to my account.

This has, unsurprisingly, been raised in the past. It's not like it wouldn't be extremely easy to add, but the argument against it has been to not easily display the e-mail address, since it is, in a sense, slightly "sensitive" information, in that if you gain access to someone's account, you could go from there to try and crack the owner's e-mail account, and so forth. Given that account security is and has been a bit of a thing in Haven, I'm reluctant to make such things even easier.

How about making it optional? Personally i wouldn't want it to be shown but if anyone wants that he should be able to decide by himself - a checkbox and a disclaimer ...

If you can just click a checkbox to display it once you've come over someone's account, that would seem to defeat the purpose.
