If you're killing yourself with swimming accidentally I think it's your prerogative to weigh the value of convenience of having a boat/swimming with having to deal with death because you didn't/can't/won't pay attention.

If I were someone who were doing that I'd opt to just not take swimming and have someone else make boats.

Swimming/boats are just as mandatory as driving in normal Haven life.
Total misplay.

If I were in the position where it became clear that while driving I brought about serious danger to my own life because of my own inability to watch the road, I'd stop driving.

Like I said, your prerogative.

But this scenario is like my character going blind and getting into a car himself and driving off a cliff.

Please stop continuing this, it's off-topic.

I was under the impression giving advice as to how to stop dying is appropriate for a thread in the "How Do I?" sub-forum about dying. You don't think so?

Burinn is right, even if being crass about it. Haven is a game that requires full attention. make sure if you do screw up, like trying to chat and hitting random buttons, which is almost guaranteed what you did, then you fix what you did.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I need swimming to make boats. I need boats. I learn swimming.
But I never turn swimming on unless I am 100% sure I want and I can swim the distance. As soon as I got across the water, I turn swimming off again. After I died twice by swimming in W10, of course.

As a rule of thumb, everything that makes life easyer and less boring/grinding for players is a great idea. Everything that makes the game harder is crap coming from sadistic tendencies of Jorbtar helped by the few players with the same kind of disorders.

I have done this before trying to type something and realized after the fact I had toggled something on I didn't want to. I always want to hit 'Enter' to get chat window focus instead of ctrl+c. (Which is how you close programs, of course... loftar should know this being a linux guy!)

Also cats walking over your keyboard
