You have 2 options:

A. Throwaway alts. If you go this route, you'll end up with shitty low ql larvae/wax.

B. Spend all day looking for hives that don't spawn a swarm. From my experience it seems to be about 1/100.

My experience was closer to 5-10% of hives.

It's a heist. Use an alt to starting raiding the hive first, immediately stop raiding and boat around close by distracting the bees while your main char now raids the hive. 95% of the time they'll keep chasing the alt while you can comfortably raid. Afterwards jump into the passenger seat of the boat and take off. (Be careful not to go too far with the alt or they'll turn to your main.)

I am a beekeeper in the above. Why the change? The old way - building a skep and waiting for bees to move in - is literally what I do to catch a swarm. No stings attached! If you take larvae from a hive they will die. Raiding a wild hive will only get you stung, honey if you're lucky (can you tell I'm still unsuccessful in getting a hive started here?)

honestly i like the idea of raiding bees - but not fighting them.It should instead be a stacking wound that you get while raiding and thats it cause rn you need to find a hive that spawns no guards or 1 tops or you get shafted

I do not understand why this is a debate. The mechanic is fine as is. I was a bit frustrated at first but I took an afternoon, raided ran away, didnt even need to be on grass or in a boat just make sure I had a clear path to run away and water and you will escape without harm. I make raiding beehives part of all my foraging expeditions. Ill cruise around in a boat/dugout, if i see one stop and raid, if i get aggro run/row away. I always get at least one free raid.

As a sidenote I believe that wax production rate has been increased this world to offset the new mechanic. Can anyone else confirm?

Thank you everyone! Once I discovered that some wild hives are "unguarded" (I hadn't found any yet and was very discouraged that I wasn't strong enough to battle the wild bees) I just motored around and checked out hives until I found them. Now I have three of my very own hives
