or make an alt to probe the walls and get the cave ins until you find a safe spot and then dig away

play minesweper - and pave all the tiles that dropped cavedust with stones of various colors depending on how much cavedust they dropped

then get annoyed at the fact that you cannot remove them
why not make ugly pavement next to someone elses undeground part of village then? ¦] they cannot remove it any longer ¦] ¦] ¦]

just pick up a clover   or tame a mouflon so you won't have to pick up a clover every time you need wool

it's very easy to avoid cave in you just have to know minesweeper rules, which are pretty simple and obvious
and even if you cause a cave in you often get ones that can be healed with leeches or gauze, which you can get easily
some of the wounds also heal without any medicine, for example concussion

it will only make you stop mining for a few hours then you are ready to go, but if you pay attention to how much cavedust was dropped and which tiles can potentially cause a cave in u they shouldn't be a big deal, unless there are so many of them and prevent you from getting to the place you want, in that case you can risk getting kod and mine in the places where it's likely that the tile is actually safe to mine

and you can often avoid cave ins if you are prepared, some happen immediately and you have no time to react, but many of them are still easily avoidable

You can remove pavement in caves: Adventure -> Dig.

Also you seem to miss the point that there are no cavedust hints for the original cave walls so one has to resort to playing russian roulette...

Another tip : Pave near the suspected cave in walls. Saves you mining them later and smashing your skull in.

okay, nevermind, for some reason I thought that it used to be possible to do that by stomping

Suffer and play on the default client!! Cause, you know, you're half brain dead for a while and shouldn't be able to see the extra goodies.

Yeah the problem is not the dust. It's the layer of walls running all over the mine. That first wall layer. I have to break thru those first in order to see what's behind it etc.

That is what I am getting creamed with the cave ins. I do not have any dust/warnings etc.

Yep, it's just random trying. Some people are lucky, some aren't. I can't say there's any particular skill in it.

Well, if you are just blindly try to open a cave wall you'll need (on average) significantly more attempts to find ore than if you prospected first and try to open a wall in a specific place. There is still element of luck involved, but at least you know where are you trying to get.
Too old to rock-n-roll, too young to die.
