this is the best existing guide on how to mine gems:

1.go and mine random walls underground
2.keep mining
3.pray you will get what you want
4.repeat all of the above steps

you can also do the gemhunter credo to be more likely to get more and better gems

Yeah, that's been my understanding, MadNomad. For now, I've just been trying to mark the gems I do find so just maybe I can get lucky and make gem hunter a little less painful.

I just finished gemhunter on 2 chars... and it wasnt bad (comparing to fisherman). I got like 2 quests to mine specific gem/cut, and I skipped those. Atm I have 2 cupboards of gems - mostly small, bit also few grand/jotun. You just need to mine in many places.

I find it! Onyx on L1. Well, one and i need mine some more. Anyway, you can get gems even on L1, it's good.
