I've placed two claims without a problem even though there are two small groups in my area griefing others, my advice is firstly to get claim up on the first day (easily doable by discovering every tree/bush seed and chipping boulders) ... but, obviously too late for that now ... and secondly, to claim inside a cave.

Find a cave system with only one entrance, short cliff and away from groups and special resources and you should be fine.
Once you have enough for a second claim place it above the entrance on the cliff and extend over.

This method has worked for me every world for the last nine years, when someone tries to enter your cave and finds it claimed they tend to just move on. It will give you time to get the discoveries you need, leather, glue etc so that when you are ready to wall you can go straight to a palisade. You can build the palisade before even laying your second claim if you gather enough resources, you have time before it decays if you work hard on it. Later on you can extend and build your second palisade or brick wall.

Don't give up ... just move away and find a quieter spot. Good luck! :)

As a beginning player, you don't want neighbours who are actively bashing claims. And they are indicating they don't want you around by doing it.

It's a good mild warning that living in that area might cause issues for you.

Mild in terms of damage done to you, warning as in "those people are probably quite aggressive". I'm not necessarily condoning people doing it, but from the perspective of someone having it done to them is what I mean.

And tbh, any attempt at telling people to move in my experience just causes more problems than quietly bashing their place. I've had people place griefing claims all over just for being asked to move away from a swamp to let it respawn.

I am sorry to say the claim system is rather broke at the moment. Players abuse the system. Add in the dev's prefer points of conflict and you get a sort of perfect storm.
Is there a way to protect a claim without standing guard and fighting off people? Not Ive found.

Also think of it this way. Take it as good sign that they're doing this now. Instead of a week from now when they poop sock their stats into the hundreds and just roll over murder you and steal all your shit.

cant kill people that dont use murder/ maybe YOU should befriend people and not break there shit.
just keep rebuild mate. theyll give up sooner or later. people like that stop playing after a week or two. month at most.

my advise:

-first claim inside a claim is a good idea.
-claim in a spot where nothing else is. Do not build there. do not terraform. do not do anything other then build a claim in the middle of no where.

These are normally how I get past greifing.

with larger groups. 8 alts around the claim will protect it. they can't push alts away if you are proporly shoulder to shoulder.
WARNING! MY ENGISH SUCKS.

if somebody breaks your claim, go break theirs with alts.
at least, that's how I singlehandedly fended off 3 aggressive Poles yesterday.
not sure what you can do now but move away...

how long does it take to dry? not on wiki

Yeah I put down a claim without building or paving to make it discrete, but actually maybe it might be good idea to purposely make it obvious as its a good measure of how unfriendly your area might be.
