Realms can have buffs that increase growth speed of certain crops within realm borders, this may have been subject to change this world as first realm has just popped up and changes have been made to realms this world.

So, is crop growth speed related to location in the world?

The basic crop speed, per crop type, is the same across the map.

so, i guess 32-38h to reach stage 2 on flax and (total) 78-84h to reach stage 3 is normal? no realm buffs, no credo bonus, multiple hives present. still, these numbers don't seem right.

I don't know any specific times, but flax is relative slow even with a Bee Skep. So It would not surprise me.
