Seems to me a lot of shennigans are minehole related. Couldn't we get a change that passing through a claimed minehole you get visitor debbuf? Good security practices pretty much mandates you surround them with visitor gates anyway. Any downsides to this I didn't think of?

A minehole doesn't change that much, just lets them get people to smash things faster that they already had vandal perms to. They could just destroy everything alone while you're sleep, if we're imaging worst case scenario. Anything behind a pali'd p-claim they don't have theft/vandal perms to is still fine.

They'd probably get used in some safe palis if restrictions while in combat weren't added. But eh, not that big of a deal, properly built safe palis are super secure anyway, doesn't change much if they get more secure.

It has been a problem for years with both caves and mineholes. Every world since visitor gates were added there has been someone using that bug with visitor to raid (usually Snail & co). I really don’t understand why it hasn’t been fixed in all that time unless there are technical limitations or something stopping them from doing so.

dont recruit from in-game, its almost always a bad idea. just try and find friends that you think would enjoy the game from other places

Thank you for everyone's suggestion!

Most of them tho say "you gotta do autistic levels of effort to even begin considering taking someone in"
Inviting people from elsewere seems the way to go, but the dead hearthfires in my village make me sad :(

I have a solution recruit Neighbors not villagers bring new people into your area give them the resources to build a palisade and get started in their own little corner and gradually build up trust with them over time and figure out what kind of person they are

this is how I basically do everything in my area I recruit new players give them the basics teach them how to play the game and give them the stuff to build their personal claim and Palisade in my local area and I trade with them for things I need
pretty much every roll you would need for a village will eventually be created

everybody has their own things they like to do and they trade for resources related to things they don't like to do but they need

and I also made a community Discord for my little neighborhood chat group

this way everybody's in charge of their own little place people are also a little bit more happier I've noticed with the system have came up with for this world

These days I mostly play solo but for a few worlds I set up a local "Village" for nearby hermits it was really a village in just name only, shared chat for the neighbours and the like. Kept my important stuff on a personal claim, had some shareable tools/equipment anyone could use.
One of the best ways I found to try and foster a community is to help each other with Credo quests or resource intensive builds. Don't ask for the world, but "hey I need a bunch of cloth for my new windmill, anyone got any spare?" can be something a small community can rally around. Pool resource node info, keep an eye out for foragables/ore that someone needs, before you know it you're mining and exploring together. Just don't expect someone else to do all the work.

If they have a long history of posting in the forum, you can gauge what kind of person they are and also their age by how they write. One can send them an invite through DM. Not a fool proof method as many post under different names, but it is very hard to disguise who you are in many posts. You need to understand how to interpret posts though.
