Question about study desks

Lately it seems if you let your study desk empty entirely your character will not automatically start studying after you refill it. So before refilling the desk manually start your character studying a few items (right click>study) then fill the desk, it should work normally again (unless you let it empty).

If you right click your own desk the only option is "open", if you right click any other desk you have the "open" option and the "take possession" option. You can only possess one desk, so if you take possession of any other you will stop studying from your own desk until you take possession of it again.

I'd used the last bit of battery my laptop had to refill my study desk and it turned off before I could put anything in my study report. No opportunity to recharge the laptop for another week.

Seems it's by design that your study report doesn't automatically pull from your study desk. But... why?

My guess would be that Devs were unable to predict the situation, where someone is playing on a laptop, fills their study desk first, laptop battery dies before they can get any items into their study report and they can't recharge it for a week

Not sure how they didn't foresee something so obvious.

Study desk is very weird in that regard. If, on the other hand, you would've logged out with an empty desk and a bunch of short term curios like dandelions and cone cows in your study, and then a week later, right before relogin, someone else would've put a bunch of freshly made long study time curios like woodshavings, shiny marbles, etc, you would get them finished instantly upon login, as if you were studying them for the entire week, causing a time paradox.
