Question: I have an old pickaxe q 157 I bought early world, and I am wondering if it will cap ore and rocks and if so by how much. I have not been able to make a better pick axe for my miner yet. My plan is to continue to grow trees with boughs and hopefully I will get high enough quality on that to increase the q of my pickaxe. I would perhaps have bought one, but since I am in W16 there are no markets open as I know of, and buying one with a few other things for a game token is a bit late in this world as I do not know how much longer this world will last for. It just seems like a waste of a token at this point. Are there things here I have not taken into consideration? Something I am missing?

late asf but no, poor man's gloves are the only handwear i know for a fact does it. i would assume silk gloves or plate gauntlets can, but i also know for a fact lynx claws and beaver gauntlets DO NOT.

IIRC: Compared to animal products, ore should work inversely - it's first hardcapped by Masonry and then softcapped by the tool. Taking the node variance into account, the pickaxe only starts being the quality bottleneck once you reach something like 175 masonry.

(For an example if you have 100 masonry, in terms of quality, it doesn't matter if your tool is q200 or q300 - the ore should come out at 100.)
(Having your masonry be higher, with some margin, allows you to more easily spot the nodes that you're capping and might perhaps want to save for later, or use in spiraling.)
