Is your axe in inventory or equipped?
It needs to be equipped.

So, I have this auroch tied to a post for nearly three days and he didn't lifted his ass to be tamed yet. Am I doing something wrong?

The taming windows lasts only a couple of hours, from what I observed. Either you missed it, and you'll have to rehitch the auroch I think, or you saw it but thought it was normal behaviour. Look at their legs. When they're like / \ instead of | |, then you're ready to tame.

So I have been taiming a mouflon or whatever its called. On the third round I only got the red damage numbers instead of the yellow taming numbers which should have been it for this animal. He then ran off and I had to clover him to get him leashed and tethered again. Is the animal going feral again a thing? I did have the olive branch clicked by the portrait.

Do statues expand village claims? It says it does on wiki. Does it have a timer until it's available?

What are the attributes and abilities a miner should focus on. It seems a lot of things rely on an Ability X * Attribute Y relationship but for the actual mining part everything I have read strength is all that matters regarding what tiles you can mine or not. Should I also upgrade perception to get mining curiosities?

A miner only really has to work on strength. The mining effectiveness is based off sqrt(strength*PickAvg!), so raising the substance of your pickaxe is also very important for mining lower levels. You could also consider getting constitution, but seeing as cave-ins currently don't do HHP damage, it's not that necessary.
!: Pickaxe average, meaning the root of the average of squares, (the quality modifier that uses all 3 qualities)

Getting perception on a miner wouldn't do much unless you also put points into exploration. However starting around 1200-1500 perception*exploration, you will begin to see glimmermoss (you'll see most/all in the 3k-5k perc*exp range). Glimmermoss are easily the best non fate foragable curios, so if you aren't getting them already I would recommend it.
