What do you mean charcoal? All coal is used for is as fuel (certain metal production facilities can only use coal) and the two sources are mining and tar kilns.

If you mean ash, you can burn bones in a kiln for high quality, burn food in an oven (leave it too long), or stick a lit firebrand in your inventory.

I meant the fuel for crucible. I just built one and can't fuel it with coal, so I assumed it needed charcoal - as I saw in some spoiler sourses.

You can use coal with crucible. Take 1 coal and while its on your mouse pointer, rigth click the crucible. If your toon moves but the crucible isnt filled, that means the path is blocked.

You can also use entrails, ants, worms.

Use any kind of insect, entrails or other guts, worms from digging dirt. Becareful if you have ant or other curio insects as fishing will consume these, too.

Lures require the Primitive Casting Rod, and it's a mini-game type of fishing a lot of people re turned off of due to the complexity and seeming randomness of it.
