If they manage to hold it in their Study for a few weeks (if I'm not wrong) the claim become theirs.

You just need to right click the stake and click "Renew bond" to get a new one and make the old one disappear, though - so you'll probably only lose it if you leave the game/stay away for too long.

I don't have hard data but my best guess is that it's some kind of fertilizer. Possibly grows crops to final stage or just one stage onward.

Since "Prospecting" -skill has been removed, I assume it's mining. Materials are water and rustroot. You need jar that holds the extract.
