no i don't have the visitor buff. do i need it? basically what happened is someone left their palli gate open i walked in and couldn't do anything and my buddy who had theft couldn't steal anything?

you had the visitor buff if it was on a claim. you can't do crimes while "visiting". you get "visiting" status by entering a gate that is on a claim, and remain until you exit the claim.

yes you do. bash the wall and walk through a hole instead of through the gate.

cupboards decay outside of buildings. Has been this way since I've started playing (bugs aside). I'll note the one exception is in caves where little or nothing decays.

Thanks, I saw screen shots with cupboards outside, but I guess they were just there for transport.

People do, but it's a bit risky. Otherwise they're relatively cheap and if the items don't despawn upon hitting the ground, you can at least clean up if the cupboard breaks from decay.
