I'll put it this way: I wouldn't mind if a serious wound left a permanent -1 scar after it healed, for example. Players have never had much respect for animals, and I think they should have.

Permanent damage should come from actual player vs player combat ONLY. period. That's if you insist on keeping it this way.

You could also see this as some twisted form of Insanity from Salem/Don'tStave, basically you are working to prevent "god" characters that have lived forever by introducing a mechanic that makes you need new characters. Right?

In a "pay to play" game where you work literally months to achieve said character and you have people shown investing a literal year of real life into your game style, you could see where this becomes a problem if you introduce mechanics to keep that work forever gimped.

1 1/2 hours later, wasting precious playtime, a whole of 1(one) Nicks and Knacks healed.
This is ridiculous.

The circumstances of the game are what they are. If you can't handle permanent damage due to lag spikes then this might not be the game for you, as -- quite irrespective of what we do with wounds -- you will under any and all circumstances run the risk of losing your char entirely due to lag spikes.

Unavoidable consequence of what we are trying to build here, unfortunately.

The fundamental case for permanent damage rests in the fact that I think that all characters should be possible to "grind down" over time in PvP.

Almost like getting scars, huh? :P

Really like this idea, permanent wounds and scars make the character so much more personal. It will also be a reminder of close calls and great battles you had.
Just one suggestion though, I would like that introduced only paired with improved animal AI, so that hunting an animal from afar does not become an even more favoured method of hunting and isolates melee combat only for PvP.

Can't agree more. In the same spirit as Salem's insanity/madness system, Haven needs to start feeling like a survival game where a layer of brickwall and a bucket of water won't save you from every single threat.
Of another era.

Many of us have been saying this... forever. I hate to see people leave, but on the other hand, the game gets boring when that edge of your seat survival starts disappearing, and many of us end up quitting out of the boredom, anyway.

I will say that in Don't Starve, the game just gets flat grindy at times if you're cruising through a season and have a strong grasp of the game, even with the added threats of the last expansion pack. (Waiting to see what gets added in the new one!)

All damage should be permanent and your wounds have a chance to fester and disease, in that case your dead in an hour or so no matter what. Plus I want random events where I accidentally snap my leg or something and have it gimped for the rest of my characters life I think that would be pretty cool. Also add just like random events that kill entire supergrids because its like a black plague that would be cool too

No, impsy, that sounds like a bit much, actually.

Perma wounds sound terrible, especially if it's exclusive to pvp. Large scale battles will be less likely if everyone is fearing about getting scarred and as a result I imagine pvpers will sealclub newbies since there's hardly any risk in fighting a disoriented / green player. With seemingly no lp being inherited after death this only compounds the issue of subscribed players ragequitting because a character they invested a great deal of time in is gimped to uselessness, in effect losing a majority of the time invested with no real method of obtaining returns (other than their lores which pale in comparison to later stat and attribute gains).
