I like the idea of needing to pave between signs or something to allow carts to quick teleport down roads or something. But that sounds difficult to implement.

Casuals like me will never be the best though.
Even just a week in were already a month behind compared to more organized groups out there.
For us, trade is kind of a shitty necessity if we're to jump-start our advancement.
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.

There was something like this in world 3; Constantinople. I never visited it because I was a newbie at the time but it acted as a trade hub of sorts and was located in the center of the world afaik. Dunno how well it worked in the end but it was certainly a cool landmark / player-done lore bit that made the game more interesting from a newcomer's perspective. Stuff like this will be good in getting people interested, IMO.

Funny you mention this. Dis/Ainran were the two factions to establish a trade hub in W6.

The way I see it is, same ideas, different people, same expectations, but the reality and results remain the same. Why? because there are dumb fucks in this game, we will never have a constantinople again because some people are just assholes. Raiding factions will just swing by and end it faster than it started.

That trade hub I mentioned in W6? Crashed and burned faster than it started

No, we will never have a Constantinople again because no competent group is attempting to make it a reality.

Organized trade groups or whatever would never work given the nature of this game. It's a "fun" idea but it's poorly thought out. It's far easier/quicker/safer to have communication between group A and B, and plan to have someone secretly boat to point B with whatever they want to trade.

Rejog my memory but what went down with thew Trading Hub in W6? Was the cooperation of 2 of the biggest factions at the time not enough to make it a "reality"? I honestly don't know what more they could have done to make it work.
Any "competent" group wont attempt to make it a reality because they know history will just repeat itself, it would be a waste of time.
