tar kilns quality indeed softcaps. and the wood/planks used are hardcaps.
q20 wood in a q 10 tar kiln makes q 15 coal.
q 20 wood in a q 40 tar kiln makes q 20 coal.
or so my own tests have confirmed.

Just tar output is different atm. And I asked: tar kilns aren't going to influence the Q so don't use good clay on it
