I was on slow walk and had just walked in cave and had started to turn to go back out when I was attacked. I still think they should
make something to heal all wounds even if it was something that required more mats to make

Well, my deep cuts problem resolved itself 
All it takes is to try to lure a bear while on your horsie, 100% effective I'd recommend
