There is a difference between "finding" and "discovering". Make sure you have discovered all.

Also recipes can be picky about which type of bough you need as well. you might have discovered one bough, but not the one the fishing pole recipe wants.

fishing sucks anyways, all i ever catch is roach, trout and silver bream (pretty much) and it takes a long time even with the rod.
the rod system with the pull left/right/up/down seems like it's totally random to me, or maybe i just don't get it?

I have found all of those things, so i have no idea what is going on lol

You must be the person that gathers those materials, you can't just get it from someone else or pick it up off of the ground. If your inventory was full when you were gathering the items and they fell to the ground then you won't count as having discovered them.

I was just about to ask that because the taproot i have i found, but i have been looking all over the wooded areas and have not found any to "discover". Oh well guess ill just keep looking.

Increase your exploration. You only need 2 exploration to start seeing taproot.

If that's the system taken from Salem then each type of fish has "moves" that it "likes", "dislikes" or is neutral towards. The point is to first figure which fish likes which each moves, then to figure out which moves can be caught in specific area, and then combine this knowledge to quickly figure out which fish is biting and then use correct moves to catch it.
