Different question: do you, for combat, try to use the numbers over the qwert keys (which should work), or the ones on the number block (which i never tested)?
Do you have an alt, or a friend near?
If so, spar with him to test combat - avoids further wounds.
It usually should work like this:
1. initiate combat by selecting attack, clicking the critter (or initiating spar mode with toon)
2. right-click, so attack cursor reverts to normal point - then you can move by left-clicking
3. use 1-5 to select one of the card
4. hopefully win
In case you activate the chat interface (clicking into the box on bottom of screen) or use hotkey (ctrl+s for local, is there one for village and party chats?) you'll be in chat and combat won't get the keys anymore at all, ESC shoud bring you back to combat.
Amanda, looking at what you posted me i can only suggest to try a standard layout keyboard without fancy stuff on it.
The one you have has an extra key that might do something weird (switch layouts, extra functions, whatever) that messes up something. Sadly i was unable to find out what it does because that keyboard seems only to be sold used on ebay - which might have reasons...

Wow, no, lol, only from the top row of numbers above the letters, not from the number pad - that was a surprise, what does it mean?
Right, I can if I use numbers lock ... which was the suggestion from a friend yesterday, but I tried that in combat and it didn't change anything then, I still couldn't activate punch or left hook but I think I saw jump appear at one point, just before I was almost ko'd and had to break combat - should I try that again?
Use the ones over qwert keys.
