Gte you explration up, if you can hemp or flax make a herblist table. Find morals dry them (they give strength), yet grubs (give str). They are prety week but they get the job done, if you make Pumkin pies past giving a good amount of con, they do have a chance to give str as well.

Some are harder to find than others, but the STR fish aren't too bad.

A note on ants: they do make better curios than food, but if you're desperate to get str up, eat them. There's plenty of LP to be earned elsewhere.

Told you man...rats on a stick is the best option for new a character that want to mine....lot of energy, and str/psy points.
Also frog legs rae good and easy to find...look for a swamp and catch them (Agi/per)...but lot of energy too

They can be found. Frogs are a bit harder. The old wiki page said rats only come out at night, but pretty sure I've seen them at all times. They are only on certain biomes, but as I don't use a custom client, I can't tell you which those are (all are forest types that I can tell).

If you use rat on a stick as a base for best easy food (225 energy/hunger), then you also have perched perch (needs onions) and a couple others that need a frying pan once you get a bit of iron.

If you have a bit of farming, there are several foods that are as good or better than frog legs. You might need to do a bit of light hunting. Bats aren't too bad, and squirrels, rabbits, and chickens count for any meat.
