This, taming through a closed palisade gate also works. I get the animal to 100% openings then open the gate and tame it in a few hits.

I'd say the difficulty goes sheep->boar->horse->bull. Required stats... Hard to say, really depends if you are going to use armor/weapon or not and which moves you already discovered. I don't remember my exact stats when I tamed the first horse, should be something in the range 30-40 for eatable stats and probably 50+ for UA or MC.

If it helps - if the fight is tough then go full damage (i.e. use a weapon) until you reach 100 damage for sheep, 200 for horse, 250 for bull (I decided to skip pigs this world completely, they eat too much). After that it's time to hit it more gently.

Ok, so then fundamentally all you need to do is attack a hitched animal when it is in an "aggressive stance" then do enough damage for it to flee?

Do you then hit the yield button or do you wait till it runs far enough to de-aggro?

And how many "fights" do you have to have with an animal before it is tamed?

Ideally you should peace it as soon as you enter combat with it, that way as soon as it de-aggros you exit combat. Otherwise you run the risk of killing it by accident.

I think there is some randomness in the process, but usually it's ~15% when you first leash it to the post and then it adds ~30% I think every fight (there is a yellow number floating up right after combat). When it reaches 100% it's tamed.

Might really depend on your stats. When I started the process this world aurochs were leaving more wounds on me than horses I thought the same day. Now both are just bleh, hard to compare...

Sometimes when I defeat them in combat, have peace mod on and see the tame number appear but they still die? Anyone else have this issue? Is that considered a failed tame attempt? Am I doing to much dmg?

Thanks
