It may be trivial to add a corpse for crabs when they get run over, much like hedgehogs leave a body. Failing that, I like the idea of a low-level infection cure myself.

First thing I did with the sore was try to plop yarrow on it. Didn't work.

Got the fisherman quest "eat crab roe"
I just opened maybe 20-30 crabs without finding 1 crab roe, am i missing something or are they bugged atm? Wounds are with wearing plate gauntlets. It seems like a pretty hard quest especially for newbies if the crab roes are that rare.

My impression is that stuff one needs for a credo catch/pick/fetch/deliver/eat quest tends to be rarer than usual, until that particular quest is completed.

I also noticed this.

Crabs for such quests can be collected by alts - quality is not necessary.

I've gotten crabs around q25. The claws are decent curios for early game and the crab shell can be made into a chitin helmet which is OK armor for early game and can also be made into the chitin sequins which, again, for early game, can be good guild. It goes for Cooking, Carpentry and Stealth.

hrm, i'm only using the crab stuff for when-i'm-desperate food stuff, bone alternatives for constructions that require bones and don't need to worry about quality and well... that's it, you can get better curios from chicken feathers, and better guilding stuff from squirrels and hedgehogs- early game isn't about the stealth, cooking, and carpentry, it's more about getting you're forageables right away which a forager's brooch can help, and getting leather isn't hard at all

i guess the only reason to collect crabs at all is if you have no other alternative to bones or food

use grasshoppers for food when you just need energy. they give 750% energy for each one. using crabs as a bone substitute is kind of pointless in my opinion. thats what the chicken coop is for, and once you have 3+ hens that thing makes chickens (of usually the shittiest quality possible regardless of feed and water) like crazy. and thats definitely an early game building, hell that and the rabbit hutch are where 99% of your bones and leather will be coming from if you have a halfway decent setup.

Wait, crab caressed now transmutes to infected sore? Huh. Shame it doesn't transmute to a bruise instead... Or first- seems like it would be better to make it heal into something newbies can heal before being a pain in the arse to deal with. As far as infected sores go, it seems the chances increase greatly if you enter a swamp with untreated wounds.

I was getting q29 crabs pretty regularly at one point...

The only thing I haven't seen turn into an infected sore are the wart and snake bit (-1 INT) wound.

The sores are a bane and a blessing for new players. Upside is some wounds you might not have access to materials to heal now can be healed with either time or a lot of soap. Downside is a big wound could get really nasty and be lethal.

Yes, had a 3-point one turn today - visited a swamp with it, but on a horse.
Actually, should visiting a swamp turn them reliably the plan is to pick the crabs, visit a swamp to turn the wounds into infected sores that can simply be soaped away.
