Cheesing is a term used in games to describe 'breaking' or 'cheating' a mechanic or element in the game.

For example: trapping an enemy behind a rock and attacking from a distance.

Whoa! Playing smart with the game mechanics is considered cheating?? I mean, I can understand it with a bug that enables you to jump walls or produce absurdly high q objects, or cause the game to crash on cue, but trapping a boar behind a rock or hunting from a boat is cheating?? I thought it was immersive, not subversive!

It's cheating when you use unintended consequences of mechanics. It's one that is easily excusable by most players and developers. Games in development will see the mechanics changed (eventually). Games out of development (like say Morrowind or the original Diablo) will forever have such a bug in the code and it becomes a "feature".
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.
