The advice not to stick to where you start is only good if you know where to move. What i really want each time theres a new world is a comprehensive checklist of things to decide where to settle. I remember some things but it feels like too much to remember every single important resource/biome etc. When i havent touched the game in a couple years, especially when there is likely new things im not aware of.

I remember previously doing the pclaim on solo cave entrance thing, but i feel like that might not be worth it anymore dunno. I do remember finding a big land swamp near a field that spawns horses is great for dflies but sometimes rare.

I remember recommending to find hq waterstrider lake and hq dragonfly swamp before some previous world reset. These are likely not worth the time and effort it, just nice bonus if you happen to have either nearby.

Finding swamp like banok described above would likely be better even with q10 dragonflies, since with a horse (wild one fed a clover) you can basically fill your inventory with dragonflies for free.

If you don't want to overwhelm beginners/returners with information you can keep it kinda simple:

Dos:
In a forest biome of some kind for wood and general foraging/hunting
Within 10 minute walk of swamps for Dflies
Within 5 minute walk of grassland for horse clovering
Within 10 minute boat of the ocean for ocean beach foraging

Don'ts:
Not within 5 minimaps of a swamp (settling too close to a swamp causes it to not refresh forageables/dflies while you're at home base)
Not within 10 minimaps of what looks like a large active village setting up. (if you somehow block their expansion plans, they might force you to move or try to kill you)
Not within 20 minimaps of a whirlpool if you happen to know where one is. (pvpers travel through them)

So few from me:
-If you see Mulberry Tree or Tea Bush grab their seeds, sometimes they are hard to found later.
-If you play alone and want to secure your land fast make Alt and go straight to Yeomanry to place claim, Then keep some repair items on Alt in case someone trying to demlish it.
-Check the Ring Of Brodgar wiki, there is a lot of usefull stuff there. You can see what food gives you waht FEP etc.
-Organise your storage, its usefull to do it early so you wont end looking in many crates and cupboards for one item.
-When you can make some bone glue and build study desk, even if you dont have much good curios you can stuff it with something like dandelions, ants and feather trinkets for decent supply of LP

And yeah have fun in new world and dont be discuraged by fail's, loses and potential deaths.

Also something important:
Avoid snakes especialy in early game when you cant fight adder bite.

Seek out snakes, that six slot belt is very nice. Either trample them to death with a clovered wild horse, or crush them under the wheels of a cart.

This is helpful for very basics but theres things that are easily missed until after you settle and its too late. Like i remember realising chives only spawn in a particular biome so if you cant boat to it easily you are gona missout on a some very strong feps. Im sure there is no perfect spot that covers everything but still

Zampfeo wrote:My advice is to not get too attached to the first place you settle down. You or someone your playing with should spend the first few days scouting out a good area to settle and foraging while doing it. You'll thank yourself later when you have medium-high quality soil/water/clay to use and trade with later.

You should not expectat or intend to stay in your initial settling location. Drop a palisade for basics and start scouting somewhere else to live once you've got that fallback point.

Try to find a large Grassland - avoid staying in a too large Forest biome. An advantage is if you are near a river that crosses both, and has a big lake, too.

In the fields you will be able to run (also drag a Cart) without spending too much stamina, and also there will be chicken, which are a nice abundant source of bones early on, and horses to clover and ride. Forests, however, are nice if you need to hunt squirrels for leather, so you need a forest somewhere nearby.

This seems quite a bit excessive?

Literally every single large swamp I've seen in W12 had multiple plots either right next to it, or at most 1 map tile away. 5 minimaps is a lot (500 grid tiles -- it'll take forever to get to).

The large swamp I foraged many a candleberry from (was woefully behind on bees) in W12 (Northern Dragonbutt) was settled on all sides, with huge bases (not mine) on both the north and south ends. I never had issues with respawns.
