protip: blocks do matter, they just dont use bark (like the great hall, and probably some other buildings,) so you see the board's color/the inner wood.

if you drop a woodblock on the ground you can see what color you'll get by looking at the wood.

of course, i am restating (probably) known information.

Are boards and blocks 100% different? Are the different colors related to block/board, or to quantity1/quantity2?

I can tell you that with the house I just did, the blocks were all walnut and the boards were almost all king's oak. There were like 2 random boards in there.

Previously I had done it with the following breakdown and the wood came out the exact opposite. So really it could still be wood 1 and wood 2.
72 King's Oak blocks
8 random blocks
36 Walnut boards
14 Poplar boards

Are you saying here that the great hall does use bark colour or doesn't? If it does, I would very much like to know which parts do use bark colour.
Bark colours are so sucky; I hope its inner colour allround.

Jorb has said that Great Hall doesn't use bark texture for anything so you're in luck. :)

Took 4 days to get the mats for this beautiful piece of art, definitely worth it. 10/10.

The block bark make up the logs. The planks make up the walls. The peaks and the door frame use the second plank. The door of the first is the primary block secondary color and the door of the second is the primary plank bark.

Left one is:
Spruce Blocks
Sallow Planks
Fir Bough
No idea where the yellow came from, maybe unknown secondary plank

Right one is:
Alder and Sallow Blocks
Walnut and Plum Planks
Fir Bough
