I'm probably feeding a troll but just in case, you "grab" the gilding by left-clicking and when its in your cursor you right-click item you want to gild it into.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but... How do you do combat? Like, what are the controls? I've been trying to click on the moves in the bar thingy, but that just moves my character. I have no points in any combat abilities and I'm equiped with a stone axe, if that matters...

you use 12345 to activate corresponding abilities. The actions that are in your hotbelt under 12345 are overridden while you are in combat mode; it is them you will have to click if you want to use them.

I have been farming for a while, but I have not noticed how the farming attribute affects crops (if it does at all). Could someone please tell me what the farming ability actually effects (besides craftables)

I think caps on plant of crop. Crop quality can not plant higher than this skill (or maybe just softcapping).

I originally thought that the farming ability did cap the crop quality in some way, but when i harvest a crop with my straw hat on and again with it off, the same quality crop produces the same quality materials and seeds appearing to not factor in the farming ability

Skill does not matter for harvest, I think only for plant.

And only while planting. You can have Farming = 1 and harvest any quality crops with no penalty from skill.
