Yes, a cow that didn't have a calf does not produce milk. I'm not sure if it'll help you to make rennet. Did you discover both Suckling's maw and Vinegar on your own or did you use those teaching certificates/ other players' help to learn it?

Yeah those have caused quite a few problems with getting proper recipes since they were implemented. I'd suggest trying to butcher one by yourself.
