If you can make a few of a decent quality, in 20-40-ish, it's thrown damage is greater than same quality bow (yet it's very easy to lose when hunting from boat). As a melee weapon, though, it can't Chop or something, only Sting, and it's base damage is quite low.

What's a good early fishing lure? One that doesn't require metal.

The casting rod is highly dependent on what lure your using from my understanding, so you'll basically want to carry them all, or at least narrow it down to the ones you want for the fish you want to catch. I've not really tried enough with it to learn what differences time of day or location (fish species nodes?) make as I don't care for the system.
