No, it does not work this way. Every item has one "slot". When you gild it you have a chance for that slot to remain open. That chance depends on item affinity and gild affinity, those affinities have percentages. If they match, you get a percentage depending on your corresponding skill. If they don't match, you get lowest percentage chance.
