So how many servers are there now and which one is the main one, including the modified clients as well?

There really is only one server to play on. It's the one you connect to when you use a modded client or just click "Play" above.

The legacy (world 7) server is still up and running, but only a few people are logged in at once. You need to verify your account to be able to access it ($15 US).

There is currently a test server running with some changes to the coordinate system and a combat system that may or may not make it to the live server. Unless you're familiar with the current world and mechanics, I wouldn't bother logging in.

How many modded clients are there?

At least four of them just looking on the first page. That's the most popular ones.

Here is The Wizards Tower, the "forum for alternative clients, mods & discussions on the same."

Amber Client.

Ender's Client.

Purus Pasta Client.

Shovel Client.

Those are some of the more popular ones.

You can look further into that sub-forum and choose which to use or, not use at all. All the client threads have instructions on to install.

I'm also going to note that some factions may have private clients with tools not available in the public mods.

1. What do swamps look like?

2. How do I get seeds?

3. Easiest way to get large amounts of string?

1. Swamps

2. Gather wild windsewn weeds, hang on drying rack, when dry, gather seeds to plant.

3. Easy strings, hunt and forage for spindly taproots, considered strings.

Addition: If you have drying frames and if you are good at hunting squirrels and bunnies you can make hide straps from dried hides.
