What's the whole "Essence Substance Vitality" thing about anyway? I've been meaning to ask but kept forgetting..it get's confusing when sorting out the higher quality stuff because I'm not sure which to go by..

Also, the colors of the numbers (the quality numbers) are a curiosity of mine too, there's green, yellow, white, and purple..I think that's all the colors I've seen for the numbers..anyway, so what do the colors mean?

Depending on the item, each do a different thing. One might increase armor class, while others increase armor health or agility gained, for example.

Tri-quality system is a huge failure and mess. Differing E/S/V (Essence, Substance, Vitality) values affect mainly: 1. Armor, 2. Weapons. For most of items it's enough to use average quality. to determine which one's better. For more detailed info you should ask more specified question about item type.

Colors represent the highest value. If an item has "30 15 15" quality, the averaging q20 will be purple because the highest number is Essence. Purple is for highest Essence, Yellow - Substance, Green - Vitality. White is for E/S/V are equal.

And where is Waldo?

Jokes aside: There should be a beige questmarker somewhere at the edge of your window/screen showing into the direction of him.

Does sewing increase gilding percentage?

Additional question: Does strength still affect the damage done in combat?

Nope, it's not. Drinks can restore stamina, but not energy. Some examples of food are rat on a stick and frog legs for newer characters. There are other foods that are almost as good later in the game.
