I can now confirm that (one block of) Mirkwood takes much longer to burn than (several blocks of) Willow. Quickest way to get coal from a Tar Kiln seems to be putting a single good block (like Willow) in a tar kiln. I haven't been able to time it, but at least after several hours it's finished, so it takes less than that.

Yes. Hold it in a bucket.

Your tar kilns take a good while to finish. They are not bugged.

But how it possible that others saying that their Tar kilns produced coal in few hours? I have made 3 with dif types of wood and same time (not finished). How much time can it take (max) to finish it? So we can know what we are waiting for (weeks or month)...

Depends on wood type and how full it is.

loftar wrote:The more you fill it up, the less time it will take per unit of wood, indeed. When filled fully, the amount of time per unit of wood is halved. Also, some wood types burn differently fast (though not hugely different).

Possibly weeks. Mirkwood really takes ages.
