I have no armor to speak of, maybe I'm doing something wrong because foxes wreck me. Maybe my skills are too low?

about 30 unarmed is all thats needed for a fox. Should just be able to spam punch till they start running away. Armor is always helpful, but shouldnt be needed if you just punch spam a fox.

Just find a bunch of Yarrow to deal with Antacid bites. The rest of the damage heals up fast enough. 20 UA will be enough to take them out before taking more than about 10-15 dmg. Less UA you might need to heal up openings some. Either way, nearly all are slow enough to kite around and so you can do it while taking only a point or two of damage.

Bats are pretty easy, too. 15 UA/15 AGI makes them doable, and if you have a cave nearby and can kite them to the entrance, you can use that to your advantage to duck out, do a couple defense moves, duck in, make a couple hits, repeat till it's dead. Downside is they do like to run, and they fly pretty fast (though they're no faster than foxes).

And catch a lot of rabbits, squirrels, and hedgehogs. You get plenty of skins for some basic leather armor to take on foxes and badgers.
