Best way for early LP is discoveries, which is done most efficiently in the following way:

1. Use a custom client and check all boxes for trees/bushes/stones so they pop-up on your minimap.
2. Whenever you find such resource and got LP from all its discoveries uncheck it in your settings.
3. Continue doing this untill your mini-map is void of markers.

This way you make sure that you discover every possible thing early on in the game and get a good LP boost at the start.
Make an alt to do the same thing on to get Yeomanry so you can use the alt to make a claim and not waste precious LP on your main.

When looking for an early place to settle, look for a cave with a single cave entrance so people can not get in from another ending. Look for an entrance out of direct sight of water.
Only build stuff inside the cave, with a wooden fence + claim at the entrance to block off any outsiders. Don't terraform/build anything outside the cave entrance to not attract unwanted visitors.

Another thing I always do when I find a temporary place to settle is to build a few tar kiln since you will want tar ASAP for a rowboat and/or metal when you mine some ore early. Just make sure to check the wiki for correct blocks for best tar/time ratio.

This seems quite a bit excessive?

Literally every single large swamp I've seen in W12 had multiple plots either right next to it, or at most 1 map tile away. 5 minimaps is a lot (500 grid tiles -- it'll take forever to get to).

The large swamp I foraged many a candleberry from (was woefully behind on bees) in W12 (Northern Dragonbutt) was settled on all sides, with huge bases (not mine) on both the north and south ends. I never had issues with respawns.

5 minigrids takes forever? Either way, people living directly on the swamp (you roughly prevent forageables respawning in a 3x3 grid pattern around you) are preventing parts of the swamp from respawning. If the swamp is big enough, it's only a hit to productivity rather than completely stopping it.

Also depends if those people are frequently active or not. If they're not on much doesn't matter where they live.

Not sure if we're talking about the same distance units here, but 5 100x100 map tiles is a pain to traverse several times a day, especially if the terrain isn't flat.

The swamp I'm talking about is at (230;-28), check for yourself. 3 medium-large bases right next to it. No issues with forage. My base was at (226;-33) before I stopped playing (so I'm not in violation of your rule) -- going to that swamp while not impossible did feel like an unnecessary chore.

2 points:

1) It's ultimately a case of the prisoner's dilemma. Make what you will out of it.

2) Even with the swamp being settled on both sides by groups of 2-5 people, every foraging run I did resulted in full inventory of stuff. If there is no practical difference -- why bother.

My experience with swamps has been very different, two villages like that utterly butchered candleberry spawnrate.

Beyond that, this is haven. You can just kill the other prisoners here, or in the case of people my advice is aimed at can be killed.

Yeah, mileage is going to vary with swamps depending on who is active when. If everyone in the area is on at different times, or don't overlap much, nobody is going to be seriously effected.

I think the 500 distance is mostly for safety. If you get close enough, then you can be seen on the map when tiles are sent to the client. By giving yourself a buffer, you're less likely to get harassed by ubernerds looking for lulz.

Some spitroast fish give nearly 10 total FEP when sizzling, only gives 3 total FEP base, minmax way to eat fish on fresh chacarter would be to constantly consult https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Category:Spitroast_Fish sorted by total FEP and eat from the bottom up.

Eat Grilled Frog Legs to keep up your agility on characters who need it, also good/decent energy food.

Try to get to point where you can consistently kill bats without getting wounded, this will result in steady source of hide/entrails/meat/bone. Wings can be studied as is or dried on herbalist table for AGI food. (You might not have spare tables for this for a while, but make at least couple in advance if you're planning to rush Quarryman Credo)

If playing in group, simply have two or more people killing bats as a team, the one getting hit will focus on reducing openings while others punch freely. In addition to products mentioned earlier, bats can give decent array of moves (have Stone Axe equipped to have chance to gain Chop or Sideswipe.)

This man aint joking he'll hunt your ass down. But for safety its good to not get too too close to resources worth contesting.
