You probably missed the time it was like BEAT ME DADDY and now you need to start over.
The animal is in aggro mode for few hours then rip taming.

My guess is that you need to build it again.

Are claims now useless now, because I can enter any claim and take stuff that I want without leaving a scent behind?
Because I was thinking building a claim so my things wouldn't be taken from me, but if I can enter other claims, nothing stops them from entering mine then.

Those are probably very old claims with no "presence" left on them.

I also have a question: in order to dig under someone's claim do I need Trespassing, Theft or Vandalism skills? Yes, I am aware of leaving scents
This is just probably the only option for me to get higher q clay at this moment.
