does mining a tile create by a cave-in also cause cave-ins? i know the boulders can safely be destroyed, but im not too sure how the new wall tiles works

Yes, they can cause more cave-ins. when I first started mining I ended up with three cave-ins blocking the entrance to my cave before I finally cleared it without causing more.

I know that I need to keep my sheep's milk / cow's milk curding tubs separate. Can I take an empty cheese tray that was formerly used for sheep's milk cheese and use it for cow's milk cheese?

its been awhile since i've built a palisade, can extend a cornerpost right next to a cornerpost? or does there have to be at least one wall segment?

You need to build one segment before being able to extend a cornerpost.

You can practice with a fence, it uses the same rules and measurements (apart from being easier to destroy and can't be locked).
