Well, I somehow turned my portrait off. What's the key to turn it back on?

Just mash space bar a couple times, or failing that, there should be a little arrow in the bottom right that brings it up I think.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.

differs per crop.

blueberries takes couple of days, and nettle takes i think 2 days.

Yeah, not sure if anyone has timed them yet, I keep meaning to do it, just got so many different projects on the go atm! ... I can tell you that blueberries, clover and chives are all pretty quick (3/5 days ... maybe?) and chantrelles take the longest, afaik.

Edit;
Lol, ninja'd ... so less maybe ... :)

How difficult is it to maintain a village idol with just one person?

It can range from hard (new character with low int and only having access to beginner curiosities) to very easy (established character with high intelligence and the ability to create high quality curiosities).

I've never found it difficult at all, I don't use alts (not as extra chars in my village, I have nomad alts and alts with other bases for various reasons) since we no longer need to have an industry and a nature char and I have no problems at all in maintaining my villages. The authority drain is 5k per day which is a gradual loss over the course of the day so, as long as you are studying curios you don't even notice it.

In legacy even with just two chars I've had some huge villages, I don't do that now purely because it's a lot of work to maintain a big farm and lots of animals but my village is extended below ground and it's still not an issue with regard to LP gain.
If you want the benefits of a charter stone you are going to need a village, go ahead and build one, it's not a problem to maintain. :)

Granger posted whilst I was typing ... it's not likely a new char is going to be founding a village, you need 30k LP to even activate the village, but even a newish char can manage fine, I got mine up very quick this world by using mirkwood before it was nerfed ... 5k a day is still not that hard to get even on a young char. :)
