Doesn't matter. Cupboards decay whenever not inside a house. Note that caves are currently immune to decay processes.

Actually I have had a couple cupboards sitting outside my house on my claim and they've received no decayed at all. This has been over the course of several days.

Once you build stake claim, how much area does it take? 2 by 2 or 3 by 3?
