The whole reason I brought up terrains is that according to wiki the item blood stern (which I need for healing) is only found in forests.

I realize this might be old info and might not have changed but with the requisite 1250+ I still have yet to find one.

Any chance there is a list somewhere of items that spawn on only one or two biomes ?

Also I have already made my base but if I should be near biomes that I am not, I would rather pack up and move now rather than later. (I am a solo player that doesn't know anyone here yet and still relatively new)

Main things I like is farming / gardening, animal handling (hunting, taming, breeding) and mining is ok but really just a necessary beast

Blood Sterns are pretty rare, I like making the "King of the Woods" sausage with them and I'm usually out for 30 mins+ to just gather 10 or so.

They grow on this one, which I think Vatas said was pinebarren, they grow on another biome too but I don't have a pic or the name of the biome I'm afraid.
I only ever need to know the name of a biome when someone asks where things grow, I'll make a point of listing them in the future so I can actually give the biome names as well as a pic. :)

Thank you so much, I have quite a bit of pinebarren near me, guess I am just unlucky so far.

You seem to be one of the most knowledgeable people in the game so could I ask you about the "must have" biomes I should make sure I am near.
As I stated above I made a base but if I should move I would rather it be now than later

Thanks .. but I think it's just that I tend to reply to help questions, I'm sure just as many ppl have the info and probably more but just don't post. :)

I spend the majority of my time in the game out and about, exploring, visiting friends and searching abandoned places so I pretty much know what grows where, even if it's only by sight and not biome name. :)

Biomes are pretty well distributed, you shouldn't have to go too far in any direction to have access to them all, I don't think you actually need to move to be near a certain biome, just explore.

I think the majority of long time players will search for good q nodes to settle by or claim rather than a specific biome ... though ofc mountains are important, esp early game with the ore boulders, special resources and the snow for the cold compress, then later for the mammoths and curios ... though the effects of concussion have been toned down a bit now and don't take quite as long to heal as they used to ... unless it's a matter of colour preference. (Colour = biome/boulders for building.)

For me personally, I like to be near enough to a mountain to forage it without living close enough to be near the passing traffic, a good water and soil spot are a must and I like to have forest area's close by and a beach. :D

Ok thanks, I will explore a bit more. Didnt know about the soil until last night when reading another post. I searched until I found an area with no sign of life on it for 10 map tiles in any direction. Then I looked for a cave and settled next to it (didnt know you could build a well and mine entrance anywhere). I like my spot but as you said it is not ideal and I would rather move sooner than later. I have yet to see any mountain area bigger then a sliver and no snow what so ever, so perhaps a move might be necessary.

Talking of caves ... I always settle in one, there are plenty around with no other entrances/exits ... they are easy to wall off and claim which gives you and your belongings some security, you then have immediate access to ore .. ore is plentiful and if you mine correctly you will find ore with little trouble ... when you are ready you can extend above ground for your farming area and animals and any buildings you may want and keep all your industry below ground, this makes it harder for others to know exactly what you are up to or be tempted by the metals ... :) ... and gives you time to get walls in place, it also saves on an initial mineshaft.

When you are ready to go down levels just be sure to wall each one off as you go to prevent access to your main working area. (Which should ideally also be a fully walled enclosure.)

My reference above was towards the foraging numbers. The numbers in the wiki, for the most part, have been taken from legacy. I know a couple have changed (and I think updated), but not enough has been posted about some of the others to make those changes accurately.

Looks like the rest of the question was answered, so I'll leave it at that. :)

what are trolls like at this point with the new combat system, since they can't instantly oneshot someone anymore? how much damage do they do with full openings at each level?
