Does anyone know what are those 3 projects, besides the obvious and what they meant by doing over 8 years? Besides Haven and Hearth being out 2008 according to earliest screenshot from the media, unless it came out in 2007 not including development, so maybe 8 years come in just right there, not sure, but what about those 3 projects?

Haven & Hearth, Salem, and they first worked together, if I recall correctly, on some stuff for Paradox. I forget which game it was. Sorry. This might be better asked in the Inn or catching them on IRC-- synirc.net #haven. It's the "public" Haven IRC channel

They were developing Salem for Paradox until Paradox pulled the plug due to overly extended beta period. They ended up selling the Salem to "Mortal Moments" which I assume is mostly one person who regards developing the game as some sort of "hobby" if I've understood correctly.

Saergof wrote:There are different applications of fuel. For the campfire and cauldron it is irrelevant whether one fuels it with sticks, blocks or coal.

For the kiln, smelter, oven etc., on the other hand, the quality of used fuel is a factor used in calculations of the quality of the final product. So, it is in user's interest to use the best available fuel.

Blocks have the quality equal to the quality of the tree log from which they are chopped off.
Coal have the quality slightly lower than the quality of the nearest quality node at the place when it was mined out. It is quite problematic to find a coal of q100+.
The quality of the charcoal is determined by the quality of the kiln and the quality of the boards/blocks used.

Finally, the sticks can be created from the wood block, using an axe, and their quality will be an average between the quality of an axe used and the quality of the wood block. Since now even q60 wood blocks are considered "lower than average quality", and q150 axes are available for trade, sticks are the obvious choice for day-to-day tasks requiring high-q fuel. But note also that smelter can be fueled only with coal.

Jesus christ, there's so much more to fire than I thought. Thanks a ton for this very detailed response :)

edit: one thing's still somewhat unclear to me--is there no difference in efficiency between sticks and blocks? In other words, do sticks burn faster per unit than blocks? It sounds like they might not

Apart from quality changes through splitting with an axe: no. 5 sticks burn all long as one block.

In a way, yes. While a stick burns for 1 tick (~4m50) and a block burns for 5, if you only need 2 ticks worth of fuel to make a brick, it's more efficient to use the sticks.

This was before Salem. It's how Paradox picked up on Haven and started talking to them about developing a game if I'm drawing the right conclusions. Jorb definitely has talked about some of the stuff he did for one of the grand strategy games (CK or EU one, can't remember which... he commented on it in the "other games" thread).

Is sliced cheese q capped by any skill / stat or by the slicing tool q? (if one is needed)

EDIT: looks like the answer is no. Could be affected by tool, if required. Didn't check.

I can understand why the hide was q13, as i used lowq arrows, but i have 20 survival and q20 axe, and meat/bones were all q13
