If they, however, manage to get in, am I safer if I enter in a house / in a minehole? They shouldn't be able to perform other criminal acts, so they cannot enter and at the end they will lose aggro, right?
No, it's less than a minimap. I think it's a bit longer than the "memorize" range, though.
Use the attack command on a chicken or a rabbit far away and you'll automatically walk towards it. When combat starts, this is your answer, this is aggro range. Some people probably have a more accurate answer though (in tiles or something).
But yeah, you should feel safe, no worries.

The intended game mechanic is that you can only be harmed at home if someone sieges you - that is, break your walls. There are glitches and abuses and all that, but for general purposes, having a locked gate in a claimed wall is pretty much as safe as you can get.
And yes, if someone manages to aggro you through an opened gate - which is very unlikely but can happen - entering a house will eventually break combat because they won't be able to follow you inside.
But prefer a house - NOT a minehole! Although they probably won't be able to follow you inside the minehole, unless you built banners underground you'll be leaving your claim so it's generally safer just to enter a house.
Now, this will hardly happen nowadays since you can simply right click any visitor and "Evict" - this is an insta-knockout and throws them outside. It can be more risky for them than for you to follow you inside your claim without taking down your walls
