mining and ore smelting?

Tried to mine in one cave and nothing good there, 95% of walls cant be mined (no strength). Ffs where to get ore (

Luck is a skill. I got like 8 full stockpiles of ore now (thats 560ish ore).

If only fuel was this easy to find. Infact, the only reason I don't have even more ore is because rats are harder to find than ore at this point.

finally smelted iron ochre to bars of cast iron, rate very low, 2-3 bars from 25 pieces of ore.

So, whats the way to mine now, before you get access to supports, same "Z"-style mining?

Sometimes i get cave-ined even trying to mine the first tile. And no, its not the edgy one, just regular flat wall one.

Surface ore to make supports I guess? It's rare but there is the occasional rock out there that gives it.

Do tiles with ore have a different color than nearby rock? I mean, if I mine a tile in cave and nearby tiles turn into brown color, and I mine one and get a feldspar - does it mean there is only feldspar, or is there a chance that any of the uncovered tiles is ore, even though it looks the same?
