I'm planning to build my first minehole, but I have a problem: I have only casserite near my small village. I'm wondering if I should move my entire village in a place with at least some cast-iron ore (or a tin+copper combo), or if that's not so important. I can move all my things with not too great effort, but I obviously prefer to stay inside my palisade forever!

Even if you move, ore will run out eventual and then you will be in same position as if you do not move.

Yes but if I can catch some cast iron I can forge a pickaxe and after that I will be probably able to mine lvl 2 too

I do not think this is changing much. You can just go mine in some cave. Ore is common thing. But if you like to move, then do this move.

How exactly a Granary is different from just storing seeds in a barrel? Other than increased capacity?

  • Costs different material to build.
  • Can not be moved.
  • Bigger.
  • Can only store seed.
I think this is difference between granary and barrel.

All of them but one make it worse storage for seeds than barrels.
Actually, barrels are more efficient if you just load up a cart or wagon with them-

Ysh is right. Don't move. You can build a second claim, a palisade around it, and a road between the two claims. Dig up a cabinet full of decent quality rustroot and go prospecting. My experience in any world since 4 has been that there's usually some of each ore nearby, it's just not necessarily easy to find, ie it's not protruding into a cave or is a small node.
