For dowsing rods which arrow/pie part do I follow thin end or thick end? this end -> < <-or this end?
also if the pie/arrow is thicker does it mean that the well spot is closer?

The ore you're detecting is somewhere in a direct line between the edges of the thick end if I remember correctly. (So follow the thick)

So all the guides I'm reading about farming mention doing a "plant check" where you inspect the plant to see what quality it ends up with. However i can't seem to inspect plants that are in the ground. I either get a message about the claim shield or (when I'm outside the claim) it doesn't do anything when I click on the plant with the magnifying glass. Does this need a custom client to accomplish?

What minimum MM is need for different ranged weapons?

There is no minimum. What you'll find is that low skills are slow and harder to hit with. It also caps the quality of your ranged weapons when you craft them.
