The honest answer is to hunt in caves for coal while you wait. It's how all the factions with metal currently did it.

Day 748: Tar Kilns still not done.

These things better give tons of fuel, because it takes about 12-15 coal to get an average of 1 iron bar.

They don't. One block = 2 coal.

That's the willow. What about oak? pine? Or is this your result from trying different types of woods? I'm only asking because jorb says things are based on type as well as amount, and didn't want to just assume this was time only. :ugeek:

Well, there is hard and soft wood, beter do your research in botanical web site then rely on devs.

Jorb will we the coal produced by certain trees last longer than coal made by other trees?(assuming both were quality 10)

I ask this after looking online into the rather large differences in charcoal densities of a few common trees.

If this was Dwarf Fortress, I might just do that, but as it's a Seatribe game, just throw all that reality crap out the window. :P

We haven't quite gone that deep, no. Yet, at least.
