You're being overly sensitive or incredibly dense if you think people are just trying to bash noobs. It's a genuine issue that's been caused by updates since hafen was released.

If you really want to help out a hermit, accept whatever that hermit are able to offer. It is as simple as that I think. Or if you would rather not be bothered with low q anything, give something away for free. If neither of those options are something you care to do, that is fine. But then you really don`t want to help out, and the question is moot anyway. Moderate charity does not corrupt.

I had a benefactor once that bought large chests of food from me. It was too low q for his village, but he gave the food to hermits in his neighborhood, as the food was high q to them. I got bluebells etc in return, which I could use to buy tools. He did not need anything from me, but traded anyway - just to be nice. It does not need to be more complicated that that.
