So, the materials matter only for aesthetic purpose. Okay. And does the palisade have just one skin or it will look different if built out of mixture of tree types?

Just note the distinction between buildings (houses, walls, and such) and workstations such as the smelter, kiln, and others. Quality actually matters for workstations. When in doubt, you should be able to look it up on the wiki. General rule of thumb: if it's used in crafting, it matters. It's not always true, though.

^^ yw ... the first page of Romovs thread gives all the hotkeys for future reference. I quite often have to check if I haven't used one for awhile, it's a lot to remember, I'm always confusing mine supports with beehive radius, I go to turn off mine supports for ss and then end up turning on beehives!
